The update cable ensures a reliable connection between DTCO and Workshop Tab.
The VDO upgrade cable allows workshops to upgrade Digital Tachograph Version 3.0 to 3.0a and 4.0 to 4.0e. The upgrade can be easily carried out as part of the periodical check in a very short amount of time. This product works in conjunction with the VDO Workshop Tablet.
Additional upgrade vouchers are required for the 4.0 to upgrade to a 4.0e – part number 2910002570100.

Why upgrade the DTCO?
Looking at the DTCO 4.0e, there are many advantages:
The new DTCO working time counter also records work periods
Time limits for manual corrections have been changed to make daily work easier for drivers
Automatic detection of the country in which the vehicle is located (start/end) via GNSS signals (helps with ‘cabotage’)
Overall improved performance and usability saves valuable time for the Driver

Is the update required?
Update optional -
All VDO tachographs are updateable and the optional update applies to all digital tachographs up to and including the DTCO 4.0e. Up to now, this was optional, so that existing tachographs could be updated with new or improved functions, such as 3.0 to 3.0a and 4.0 to 4.0e, mentioned above.
Update required -
From the Smart Tachograph Version 2 (the VDO DTCO 4.1), regulation details that all tachographs from this generation must be updateable. This requires the update cable. There are mandatory and optional updates on the DTCO 4.1:
legislative changes with a legal effective date that fall within the DTCO hardware architecture (mandatory update)
changes to the digital map (mandatory update)
new tachograph functions and/or improvements (optional update)
