Retrofit Tachograph Kits

The light commercial vehicle (LCV) market saw a 25.8% increase in registrations compared to the same time in the previous year from 2022 to 2023, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The biggest growth was recorded in the 2.5T to 3.5T weight class, rising 34.1% in Jan 2023 against Jan 2022. These large increases in registrations appear to be set to continue up to and throughout 2024.

According to the UK Department for Transport, in 2020, light goods vehicles up to 7.5T accounted for 86% of all goods vehicle traffic in the UK, suggesting that these types of vehicles are more widely used for commercial work.

At Continental, we are seeing a greater demand for retro fit Tachograph kits for these lower weight class vehicles, a trend set to continue with the EU Mobility Package 1 when it becomes mandatory to retrofit to all registered goods vehicles over 2.5T, undertaking international journeys for hire and reward, on and after 1st July 2026.

What do you need to know?

Icon-Check

Can the vehicle take a KITAS sensor? Is there a blanking plug on the gearbox where a KITAS sensor can be fitted? If not, then you need an M1N1 kit.

Icon-Check

Is the vehicle going to be mounted directly in the drivers eye line? If not, a warning light (T-kit) and harness are required.

Icon-Check

Is the speed signal going to be taken from the CAN? If so, then a CAN adapter would be required.

All the retrofit Tachograph kits do have work instructions available on request. All the work instructions are based on previous installs to specific models.

Whilst every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the information given in the guides provided, Continental Automotive Trading UK Ltd cannot be held responsible for any errors or omissions. Ultimately, the installer must ensure compliance with the specific vehicle repair procedures laid down by the vehicle manufacturer; particularly with regard to battery disconnection/reconnection procedures. Failure to comply with the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions may result in personal injury and/or component damage/memory loss.
